With the support of the European Union and the Fundacion Triangulo and in conjunction with the DIVERSA Network, SOMOSGAY launched the successful campaign "Paraguay with rights, Human Paraguay" commemorating the International Day of Human Rights, with the aim of positioning the protection of universal human rights as a political and with the prospect of creating a culture of protection of the human dignity of all persons in our country priority.
On Wednesday December 11, a historical presentation of the video “Paraguay with Rights, Human Paraguay” took place at the special meeting of the Chamber of Deputies with the accompaniment of Congresswoman Rocío Casco. During the presentation, Ms. Casco recalled that last December 10th marked the 65 years of the Declaration of Human Rights, noted that such date is an opportunity to reclaim, celebrate, raise awareness and work for the defense and enforcement of Human Rights.
He also reminded that Nelson Mandela, who died Dec. 5 , was a defender of freedom, respect and human rights and the first African leader to strongly support the LGBT Community. "Nelson Mandela knew how to light the eternal flame of dignity in the struggle for freedom. He proposed to himself and realized the challenge of transforming a structured supreme injustice of apartheid, in a single society united without discrimination, free and democratic society" said Rocio Casco.
During the week, representatives of SOMOSGAY promoted the campaign in different media, such as newspapers HOY, ABC Color and Ultima Hora, Venus Radio and television channel Telefuturo, Somos del Este of Ciudad del Este and others.
The "Paraguay with Rights, Human Paraguay" campaign will continue in the coming months with film series with discussions on human rights and talks with exponents of culture , health and politics.
Anyone can be an advocate of human rights, and strive to promote, either from settled intergovernmental organizations in major cities around the world to people who work in their local communities. "We want to install in the public opinion that human rights are a matter for everyone, and we can all be advocates for these, regardless of the role they fulfill," said Adolfo Ruiz, Coordinator of the Youth Area, in an interview with newspaper HOY.
SOMOSGAY and this campaign aims to strengthen the participatory, inclusive and full democracy in the country, which has the strategy based on the recognition of diversity in society and the application of the principles of equality, non-discrimination and full exercise of human rights.
