Under the cooperation agreement between SOMOSGAY and the Center for Victimology Studies (CEVIC) a workshop on "Discrimination, Depression and Suicide" was held on April 14th at the headquarters of the LGBT Community Center. The workshop was developed by psychologist Yolanda Mujica, who coordinates the Center for Victimology Studies, with the aim to offer a safe space to share common experiences and questions related to the topics, especially for young LGBT people.

The contents for the workshop were based on the experiences shared by people accessing psychological care, provided free of charge in the Kuimba'e Clinic, where most of the cases handled since 2013 were related to violence in the workplace, family and overall social discrimination.

Given that suicides at country level are increasing (more than one person per day between 2013 and 2014), this issue directly affects the most vulnerable and unprotected communities, including the LGBT community. That is why the theme was intended for participants to meet and share these experiences and transmit them to their community.

The workshop was developed in a participatory environment in which more than 40 people, despite the difficulty of the subject, exchanged experiences and analysis on the new challenges for their communities.

The Center for Victimology Studies (CEVIC) is a non-profit association created to carry out activities related to addressing violence and its consequences, from the perspective of victimization and promotion, participation, organization and development of the community.

Through this cooperation agreement, CEVIC and SOMOSGAY join efforts to cooperate in promoting a formal basis for strategies, programs and projects of priority actions and the generation of proposals that contribute to empowering our community, especially when referring to LGBT people.
