On Saturday July 18th, from 1pm at Plaza de la Libertad in Asuncion, SOMOSGAY, LESVOS and the Paraguayan LGBT Federation will celebrate the Pride Parade, now in its 2015 edition, commemorating the LGBT pride day.

This year, the celebration of the Pride will have a symbolic ceremony in which same-sex couples will exchange vows and join in marriage. The ceremony will have as main objective the claim for recognition of marriage equality and the fight for the rights of LGBT people and their families. It is for this reason that marriage equality is key and driven by the LGBT movement worldwide.

The Pride will feature live performances of renowned paraguayan singer Andrea Valobra and her group, The Sinatras, as well as the show of The Walkers Blues Band, Abuela Dj, N4 Pop and an extensive food, drinks and crafts fair that will fill with colors Asuncion’s downtown.

Marriage equality is a human rights issue backed by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, which considers that "marriage is a right belonging to all people, regardless of their sexual orientation".

This June marked forty-six years of the Stonewall riots, where about 300 men and women were arrested after three days of intense protests due to the ruthless discrimination by the police, simply because of their sexual orientation. This marked a before and after in LGBT rights movements in the United States, and marked the start of the LGBT revolution worldwide, until today.

SOMOSGAY invites everyone to be part of this celebration that seeks to vindicate the right to dignity and freedom that unites us all in our path to achieve joy and pride, strengthening a movement that seeks to build a free and equal society for all.
