SOMOSGAY participated in the Spanish LGBT exhibit VISIBLE 2009. In its opening act, the attendance of the members of SOMOSGAY took the most part of all participants. During the same, a round table was carried out that included the participation of a Pablo Peinado, curator of the exhibit and director do the association VISIBLE, Myriam Martinez Elcoro, director to the Centro Cultural Español Juan de Salazar, and Simon Cazal director of SOMOSGAY.


The director of SOMOSGAY reflected on the importance of utilizing art as a tool for cultural change, even more in conservative and macho society as it is in Paraguay.
The opening of the echo it was accompanied by the installment of the tree of desires, a piece by Yoko Ono, authorized by her manager. The tree of desires is an installment that seeks to collect the desires of the advance of rights to the LGBT community, from the largest number of people possible from different parts of the world.
The closing ceremony included a cocktail party offered by the Centro Cultural.
In its second day, the exhibit presented the documentaries “Homo Baby Boom” and “Orgullo”. Both of these explorer the Spanish reality in several areas, in regards to the right accomplished in the legal framework and the challenges that are still present to reach social equality.
After the exhibit, the open discussion with the public took place. On this discussion Simon Cazal from SOMOSGAY and Pablo Peinado from VISIBLE participated. The attendees' participation allowed the discussion of several topics such as adoption and same sex gender and the viability of these.
The reflections exposed the need to keep moving forward in both parts, considering the legal lack of protection that exists in our legal framework.
The exhibit will be extended through the entire month of September and is planned to be visited by several student and young groups, through the guided tours by SOMOSGAY volunteers.
And so the exhibit that arrived in asuncion will be exploited at its best as an instrument of support to the mission of confronting homophobia in the different escenarios.
SOMOSGAY advances in the promotion of a culture that is more inclusive and open that allows to overcome the homophobia and machismo in Paraguay.
