The International Conference on AIDS is the main meeting for those that work on the HIV field, policy-makers, people living with HIV and other people committed to end the pandemic. This is an opportunity to evaluate where we are, evaluate scientific novelties, lessons learnt and altogether the path to follow.
Considering the term of 2010 for the universal access established by the leaders of the world. marked in the commitment letter also signed by Paraguay in 2000, the AIDS Conference 2010 matches with a great momentum to widen the access to prevention, treatment, attention and support by all people without discrimination.
With and world economical crisis that threatens to undermine the public inversions, the Conference will help to keep HIV to the forefront. This is an opportunity to demonstrate the importance of the continuation of the investments and the widening of the topic of HIV in health linking it to the human development of the countries.
The AIDS Conference 2010 is also an opportunity to highlight the fundamental connection between human rights and HIV; a dialogue started in the previous conference in the City of Mexico in 2008. The selection of the host city of the AIDS Conference 2010 is a reflection of the central role that Vienna has played in the reduction of the impact of the pandemic in eastern countries and those of Occidental Europe.
The program of the AIDS Conference 2010 presents knew scientific findings and offer opportunities for the structured dialogue on the most important issues of the world's response to HIV. A variety of session types - ranging from presentations of summaries impulsed by the symposium, bridge sessions and plenaries - will take place at the needs of the participants. Other related activities, including the Global Village, satellite meetings, expositions and affiliated events, will contribute to an exceptional opportunity for the professional development and networking.
SOMOSGAY participates of this important event as delegate of the Global Forum on Men who have Sex with Men (MSMGF). This entity has as primary objectives to advocate for equal access to HIV prevention, attention and treatment services adapted to the needs of gay males and other men who have sex with men (MSM), the promotion of health and human rights to a global scale.
The labour of MSMGF is organized around five main objectives: 1) a bigger inversion on HIV prevention, attention, treatment and support programs to MSM, 2) extension of the coverage of quality services related to HIV for MSM, 3) an increased understanding on MSM and HIV through the promotion of research and wide dissemination, 4) decrease of stigma, discrimination and violence against MSM, 5) regional, sub-regional strengthening, and national networks on MSM around the globe related to robust organization of MSMGF.
SOMOSGAY will use the technical resources and political contacts made in this important event, in its mission of innovation of effective strategies against homophobia; the improvement of HIV and AIDS prevention; the defense of rights to people affected by this virus and the advance of human rights in Paraguay.
