The Week of Gay Fight Against HIV/AIDS started on November 25th with the Conference on LGBT Rights and Homophobia in Paraguay, at the Universidad Columbia del Paraguay - Law School.
On Thursday, the Gay Day took place, the socialization activity organized by SOMOSGAY at the CENTER, that from that day on is repeated every Thursday. The activity seeks to install a space of meeting and socialization that is alternative to the existent commercial spaces.
On Friday 27, with the projection of the movie "And the band played on" a debate and reflection was generated on the unmeasured impact of the pandemic in the gay male population in the 1980's.
On Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 several outreach activities took place in order to reach to gay males in the commercial playful places. The activity brought informative materials and condoms to the general public in these places. The activity will be repeated in several occasions from this week and pretends to extend it to other places of socialization in Asuncion and the rest of the country.
On Tuesday 1st, as of World AIDS Day, the organization was part of the activity of the PRONASIDA, as part of the Organizer Committee of the activities on this date. The day's closing consisted of a multicultural event included a play and music at the SOMOSGAY CENTER, along with the Vice-Minister of Youth.
On Thursday 3rd, the activity included Counseling and Voluntary Testing Service in the Ypacarai City, Cordillera Department, along with the PRONASIDA.
These series of communitary activities, focusing on the fulfillment of the mission of SOMOSGAY, took place thanks to the selfless contribution of the organization's members, demonstrating with facts that the citizen's initiatives when they hold legitimacy, they achieve a significant impact in their actions and activities.
The sucessfully of week of events closed with a notable media coverage, mainly from the TV. This constant media coverage has been a big support for SOMOSGAY in order to carry out the activities in the week successfully. The coming activities from SOMOSGAY will continue to be characterized by constant innovation in order to reinforce the accomplishment of its mission.
