Members of SOMOSGAY participated in the international course of Advocacy for organizations of the civil society, organized by the UNAIDS, dictated by members of ASICAL (Association for Integral Health and Citizenship in Latin America and the Caribbean).

Both speakers have a vast experience on the topics discussed in the workshops, demosntrated in the achievements of ASICAL in the region and the efficacy of the work of their individual organizations in their respective countries.
The workshop, was attended by facilitators like Toni Reis, president to the ABGLT (Brazilian Association of Gays, Lesbians, Cross dressers and Transexuals) and Pablo Britez from SIGLA (Argentine Integration Society of Gays and Lesbians).
In three days that equaled to one day, the participants were trained in the use of techniques and tools of advocacy and strategic communication directed to decision makers in different levels.
Advocacy is a tool that allows to open dialogue with authorities and actors that influence in the public policies and policies in general. It is also useful as a paradigm to generate discussions more productive with other sectors in order to harmonize the work in similar areas.
The planning and design of a propper communicational strategy for every situation allows the organization to implement the saving of resources that it already has, without taking away efficacy and the good performance.
The understanding of these tools and their application, will allow SOMOSGAY to improve its efficacy to reach out to decision makers in the different levels that it aims to keep working on. This will also help to consolidate the workforce and the commitment of the organization to move towards a Paraguay free of homophobia, sexism and discrimination.
