SOMOSGAY calls on all citizens to respect the democratic process again, recalling that Paraguay is a secular state that has signed numerous international treaties for the protection of human rights of each and all its inhabitants without any distinction.
We condemn the statements and the order of the Protestant Churches do not vote for candidates who were in favor of abortion and gay marriage, as we believe that these fundamentalist sectors try to manipulate the vote of the Paraguayan with hate speech in a clear electoral misconduct. This speech segregation has no place in building a just, democratic, diverse and egalitarian society.
We recall the events of more than a year, where young LGBT rights activists were brutally repressed in the framework of the 44th Assembly of the OAS, after organizations that call themselves "pro-life", who appeal to hatred in order to cast a vote on Sunday, persuaded the police to act violently.
Approaching the most reactionary part of the Catholic Church speaks of a validation of the latter of the policies of the national government. But it is not possible to compliment to whom insists on discriminate, persecute and violate their countrymen and countrywomen. There is no way to congratulate a country that allows its children to be raped and their wives to be murdered. All our lives and our families also matter.
A government in Paraguay may say that defends life and families on granting equal dignity to all the lives and eliminate all forms of discrimination against all people and all their families.
At a critical time when sexism and homophobia continue to claim lives daily, we consider it necessary to call a reflection of deep criticism of these practices, noting that similar practices have been used in the recent past to justify crimes against humanity that the Paraguayan State committed against their own citizens. Congratulate who holds a dictatorship is violating the dignity of a people who have been victims of it.
We believe that hatred can never be accepted as a valid argument in political discussion, so we will celebrate the day that most political groups, including the Colorado Party itself, will begin to show more respectful towards human rights and equality of all people.
