In May, SOMOSGAY celebrates six years of tireless work in advancing human rights in Paraguay. In 2013, through the efforts of a team and the support of an entire community, the inauguration of the "LGBT Community Center"; located in downtown Asuncion, offered a space where everyone can feel free and enjoy all the services offered.


In May, SOMOSGAY celebrates six years of tireless work in advancing human rights in Paraguay. In 2013, through the efforts of a team and the support of an entire community, the inauguration of the "LGBT Community Center"; located in downtown Asuncion, offered a space where everyone can feel free and enjoy all the services offered.

With the opening of the LGBT Community Center, SOMOSGAY welcomed the "Clinical Kuimba'e" with the support of AHF (AIDS Healthcare Foundation), the first clinical health and welfare of man today marked a milestone in the health system Paraguay, for human health was not considered a public health problem.

In this short time, Kuimba'e served as a bridge to more than 2,600 people to date (2067 men and 585 women) with the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of various diseases that preferentially affect the male population. With the effort and the work of Community Agents in Human Rights and Health, there have been more than 7,500 tests for HIV and syphilis, along with lectures on sex education in hospitals and family health units.

Since its consolidation, SOMOSGAY has launched several campaigns, events, workshops and debates that were promoted by various media and social networks, reaching over 800.000 people across Paraguay and distributed over 30.000 information materials. Among these materials, EQUIS Magazine -the first Paraguayan LGBT magazine was also featured.

Various spaces allowed activists and members of SOMOSGAY to attend conferences, forums and workshops in different countries: Australia, Azerbaijan, Sri Lanka, Austria, USA, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Panama and Argentina; representing a key opportunity for them to increase their knowledge on the LGBT movement, sexual health, HIV and human rights in general.

In order to gain visibility for our diverse and colorful community; the Besatón (Kiss-In), commemorating the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, along with the Pride Parade, became two of the most important activities that the organization have year after year. Other events and activities organized by SOMOSGAY include the "Red Ribbon Week" and the "Love Festival", in addition to panels and discussions across the country.

SOMOSGAY welcomes the constant support of AHF (AIDS Healthcare Foundation), amfAR, the European Union and Fundación Triángulo (Spain), UNAIDS and the Global Fund for their part in these achievements, looking forward to keep the good work up and strengthen a movement that will fight for a better Paraguay, where everyone can be free, equal and happy.
