SOMOSGAY in the presentation of the report "Life of Truckers" on sexual health and rights to the workers of the land transportation sector. This report presents the data of the research under the same name in which revealing data on the access of this workers, in terms of sexual health, are acknowledged. This information also demonstrated that 53% of the respondents would not have a problem with a coworker coming out of the closet.
These findings also support the edition of a Homophobia and HIV Manual for the Workplace, addressed to drivers and workers in the sector, which will be used as part of the supported campaign by the ILO to improve the approach of this topic in a workplace as important as the transportation sector.
In other revealing figures presented, this shows that only the 38% of the respondents had the HIV test done in the last 6 months, in spite of the fact that 88% of them admitted to have had risky relationships in this period. This number reveals the limited access to attention and prevention services, and mainly to testing and counseling, to males and even more to males in the transportation area such as truck drivers.
This deficiency in regards to attention has been pointed out by SOMOSGAY in copious occasions to the authorities in the health sector of our country. However, there has not been any improvement or proposal in this aspect. SOMOSGAY collaborates with the efforts on the initiative by the ILO and the unions participants to this project, seeking to eliminate homophobia from the workplace.
