In 2012, days after a coup d'état that led to the country's democratic breakdown, SOMOSGAY convened its second National LGBT Congress. This historic opportunity allowed us to give an opportunity to be heard and build political demands for the mobilization of various government institutions and civil society at a difficult time in the history of Paraguay and for that reason, it was more than appropriate.
One of the main issues that were addressed, is the attitude to be taken to sue governments (at central, departmental and municipal levels), the urgency of efforts to generate knowledge and actions towards the consolidation of a Paraguayan secular state, free from prejudice and guided by the universal principles of the Charter of Human Rights.
In the context of the coup d'état suffered in our country, the Congress issued a second set of conclusions that guide the actions of the organization for the future. These actions prioritized strengthening the LGBT associations across the country, to sustain and increase citizen mobilization in the defense of human rights of LGBT people.
