On Saturday June 28th from 01:00 pm, the Paraguayan Federation LGBT invites everyone to be part of a new revolution for no sexism or homophobia in Paraguay, celebrating the pride of who we are. In the Heroes' Square, opposite to the National Pantheon, a new edition of the Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans and Straight Equality Parade 2014 under the slogan "Revolution of Love" took place, marking the "International Day of LGBT Pride ".
The "LGBT Pride Day" was born in the uprising of June 28, 1969, in a small bar in New York called "Stonewall Inn", where the first major confrontation between LGBT people and the police took place. Approximately 300 men and women were arrested after three days of intense protests by the ruthless discrimination they were subjected to by the police, quite simply because of their sexual orientation. This marked a before and after in the LGBT rights movement in the United States, and mark the beginning of the LGBT revolution throughout the world to this day.
The pride celebration is commemorated every year since that date of June 28, and recalling the riots in that little bar, where people got tired and said, "enough of abuse and persecution". In Paraguay, we will celebrate LGBT Pride with captive live shows of The Tempranos, Rolando Chaparro & Elena Muller, Las Negras, Hugo Ferreira, Fabu, Las Violetas, Alejandra, Usha, Banda Folklórica, Teatro Popular, among others. There will also be prizes for the best individual and group costumes present.
The brutal police attack on the activists who advocate for gay rights, occurred on Monday, June 2 as part of a peaceful demonstration, once again proving the intolerant stance, promoting hate and contrary to all the rights and dignity of the Paraguayans that the Government sustains. It is for this reason that, once again, we will take the strongest public spaces more than ever, reaffirming the commitment to build an equal Paraguay and reclaiming joy and pride the right to a decent life, no homophobia, no sexism, in full equality and freedom.
We invite all citizens to demand the right to dignity and freedom that unites us, fighting every day to build a free and equal Paraguayan society for everyone.
Join the revolution of love!
