In November, more than 30 young members of SOMOSGAY, the Team of Community Agents, representatives of LESVOS and VOX Civil Association, attended the Regional Meeting held in the City of Rosario, Santa Fe Province, Argentina on the past 7 and 8 of November. Several people specialized in various fields served as support for the discussions during the meeting of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people.
During the first day, welcoming remarks were provided by the Youth Coordinator from VOX, Pablo Sosa. Ms. Violeta Jardon conducted a Workshop on Gender and Sexual Orientation. This workshop are developed in detail the concepts and differences between sexual orientation, gender identity and sexual identity, in addition to conducting path and anthropological analysis of the logic of the Argentine LGBT movement in terms of legal developments accounted for in Argentina.
"History of the Homosexual Liberation Front in Argentina" was also one of the themes developed by the undergraduate student in anthropology César Serrano, member of VOX Rosario. The Homosexual Liberation Front (FLH) was an association for the defense of gay rights and leftist revolutionary, founded in the Once neighborhood of Buenos Aires in August of 1971.
Mr. Guillermo Lovagnini, current president of VOX developed a debate on public policies, advocacy and media, also accompanied by the President of the Argentine LGBT Federation (FALGBT). "This meeting is a necessary and crucial dialogue between the various movements of the sexual diversity that still focus between Argentina and Paraguay... " said Guillermo Lovagnini during his exposition. "...The future drives us to add fellow Bolivians, Peruvians, Chileans, and all movements from iberoamérica who defend ideals of equality and respect for sexual diversity."
The second day of the meeting was a presentation on the epidemiological situation of HIV in Rosario with Dr. Damian Lavarello, Chief of the Municipal AIDS Program. During his presentation, issues like the required decentralization of services oriented to HIV in Paraguay were discussed, among others." From Rosario, we are able to export knowledge and experiences of good practice for all centralized health systems . We have always had the vision of health as a basic human right, and that is why we approach health to all parts of the country that are possible to us," stressed Dr. Lavarello.
Dr. Mariana Arce developed a workshop on the National Centre for Community Organizations (CENOC), which aims to promote the participation of civil society in the management of public policies by creating institutional spaces for the articulation establishment of sustainable development processes.
Lucas Ferreyra, an undergraduate in Statistics, developed a talk on ESI (Comprehensive Sexual Education) and the survey as a political tool. "The National Program for Comprehensive Sexuality Education of the Ministry of Education of Argentina establishes state responsibility in enforcing the right of children and adolescents to receive comprehensive sex education in all public educational institutions of state administration and private from initial levels of education through teacher training," stressed the activist and militant from the organization of Rosario.
At the end of the meeting, a dynamic activity was carried out to strengthen the youth group in the Plaza Libertad. With positive results of this match, lines of work between Paraguay and Argentina, with a commitment to guarantee the civil, social, economic and political rights for all LGBT people rights were plotted.
