Under the motto ''Getting to Zero': Zero new infections, zero discrimination and zero AIDS-related”, in the Auditorium of the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare, on the morning of December 1, the act was committed deaths commemorating the world day to respond to HIV / AIDS.
The event was attended by authorities as the Minister of Health, Dr. Antonio Barrios; PRONASIDA Director, Dr. Tania Samudio.; Minister of Education, Dr. Marta Lafuente.; Deputy Minister of Criminal Policy of the Ministry of Justice, Abog. Omar Rodriguez Servin; Minister of Women, Ms. Ana Maria Baiardi.; President of the Institute of Social Welfare, Abog. Benigno López; Minister-Executive Secretary of the Secretariat for Children and Adolescents, Carlos Zarate; Deputy National Dr. Jorge Baruja, the Public Health Commission of the Chamber of Deputies; Dr. Hernán Rodríguez of the Paraguayan Society of Infectious Diseases. Also, important figures of civil society as Simon Cazal from SOMOSGAY, Marcela Valdez from PANAMBI, Aurora Gaona from VENCER, Lucila Esquivel from United in Hope and Adriana Irun from the NGO Network.
During the commemoration, Dr. Samudio highlighted the joint work that is being done with PRONASIDA and organizations of civil society. In time, the representative of PAHO / WHO in Paraguay and Theme Group Chair of UNAIDS, said that just over a month ago was adopted the UNAIDS strategy in order to respond quickly to the global epidemic and also he said that to end AIDS as a public health threat, it should accelerate the response, reach more people, with comprehensive prevention and treatment, while ensuring young people access to education and sexual and reproductive health.
Then, the health portfolio holder said that in two years in office have made much progress on HIV, among which highlighted the regulation of Law 3940/09. At the same time he assured that there is no break with regard to sustainability in the treatment and diagnosis of HIV, which has 1,041 health services where rapid test is performed.
The Minister made special emphasis on the fact that Paraguay will adopt fast track, 90 90 90 and updated ARVs guidelines as a strategy. This will undoubtedly mark a significant advance in the response to HIV / AIDS, taking the lead agency in a line of world leadership for responses to the epidemic. Barrios also expressed great concern about the cases of discrimination still recorded in services, expressed his apology on the issue and said it will continue to work to reduce these gaps, so that everyone is treated equally.
The event ended with the signing of a compromise agreement for the formation of the National HIV / AIDS (CONASIDA), which aims to promote led to the creation and operation of the Board actions by making available financial resources, material and human resources, according to the budget availability and compliance with applicable laws, the same was ratified by the highest authorities present and representatives of civil society.
