On February 14, starting at 6pm, Asuncion dyes herself in colors to celebrate the Love Festival in the iconic Plaza de los Heroes, opposite the National Pantheon. Organised by the Paraguayan LGBT Federation, SOMOSGAY and LESVOS, this festival invites all supporters that claim equality and love and everyone's right to love and be loved, without this being a reason for discrimination.
The Festival will be hosted by Paloma Ferreira, renowned TV host and Usha. The show will feature the participation of distinguished and renowned Paraguayan artists and groups such as Bohemia Urbana, Aratirí SoundSystem, Marcela Lezcano, Paula Rodriguez, Gonzalo Resquin, Fabu, Rocío Robledo, Gea Cáceres, Juanca Otaño, as well as famous artist Oz Montanía, who live-painting during the activity.
This event aims to highlight and claim the legitimate and real love, without distinction based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression. "Paraguay must realize the principle of equality that our Constitution proclaims: all citizens are equal before the Law, and only the same rights with the same names pave the way towards equality and an end to discrimination" mentioned activist Simon Cazal, Co-Founder of SOMOSGAY. "While the State does not recognize LGBT couples as equal, they will be sending out a message -from the authorities- that these couples, and therefore, the people who compose them, do not deserve the same respect", he added.
Same-sex marriage has been greatly recognized as a subject of universal human rights supported by the Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights within the United Nations, which considers that "marriage is a right belonging to all people, regardless of their sexual orientation".
SOMOSGAY wants the State to recognize that all citizens are equal before the Law, so that we can build a more egalitarian society free of discrimination, a society that benefits us all as Paraguayan citizens.
"Human rights are universal, no matter who you are or who you love", states the slogan of the Love Festival.
