On Wednesday December 3rd, activists of SOMOSGAY and professionals of the Kuimba'e Clinic participated in the Second National Forum on the Response to HIV/AIDS, in the framework of the 5th National Exhibition on Epidemiology, organized by the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare from 3-5 December at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Asuncion.

The main purpose of the Forum was to analyze the social enablers of the epidemic and its relation to the most affected populations in the country. With opening remarks and a presentation of the available data made by Dr. Tania Samudio, Director of the National HIV Program, the attendees discussed the new resources to apply a comprehensive approach and community-based interventions in response to the HIV epidemic in Paraguay. Also, the Forum was key to analyze the gaps and effectiveness of the current interventions, policies and research on HIV, to generate valuable strategic information to support the expansion and sustainability of antiretroviral treatment in Paraguay.

In an interview published by the Ministry of Health, Dr. Samudio stated that "The offer of testing services is mainly focused pregnant women, so the challenge is to offer these services not only to them but to the general population with special emphasis on key populations, especially to raise the number of men who access to HIV-related health care services”.

From SOMOSGAY and the Men’s Wellness Center, Kuimba'e, we reinforce our commitment to equality, universal access to health care and treatment services for everyone, in order to improve the quality of life of people living with HIV and those affected by the virus, especially in the most affected communities.
