On Saturday April 29, SOMOSGAY held the inauguration of the LGBT Community Center in Ciudad del Este, Department of Alto Paraná.

Martin Vera, SOMOSGAY activist in Asuncion, opened the event by thanking the many people present: "It is a great joy for all to see so many faces tonight. This Centre will be running from Monday on at 14:00 hours to 20:00 hrs and will gradually have the same amenities as the Community Center in Asuncion: a free cybercafé with wi-fi signal, a multipurpose room to project movies and perform lectures and workshops and an HIV and syphilis Testing Center testing, free, voluntary and confidential"

City councilman Miguel Prieto gave his words of support "I am very happy to be here with you, our city is going through difficult times, and I want to stress that what is most affecting us is discrimination. We need to change so many things in our society and the best way to do it from any sector is organizing, and today each one of you is giving an example to many people who want to do more, to be encouraged to improve something, to dare to step forward to ending discrimination. In the fight against discrimination I want you to know that you will have friends, allies, we will be with you, holding hands, fighting discrimination that is a synonym for ignorance, that is what we must fight to lift our city together and together. "

Municipal councilor Celso Miranda (nicknamed Kelembú) also gave a few words. “I think this is really something spectacular. In many cases, teenagers are kicked out of their homes for their sexual orientation. You have a friend councilman and all doors opened for every projects you want to carry out.”

The director of the Tenth Sanitary Region, Dr. Miqueias Abreu was present celebrating and offered the following words: "I want to congratulate you on this great initiative, undertaking a community center with a big goal, which is to provide care to a group of people who have the same feeling and the same dream. I will also like to tell you that our public services are open to everyone and also the CEPEP clinic is opened and we hope to work together so we can reach more people. "

Thus, SOMOSGAY officially began the work by the community in the Department of Alto Parana, with the main objective of providing effective responses to HIV and other STIs as well as services aimed at improving the quality of life of all people.
