SOMOSGAY, Lesvos and the Paraguay LGBT Federation join the celebrations of the 470th anniversary of Asuncion city. The Festival for Equality will be held on Saturday August 13th from 14 hours in the Plaza de Libertad (opposite the Panteón de los Héroes).
Many important artists such as Andrea Valobra, Oscar Fadlala, The Walkers, EEEKs, Pachín Centurión, Seismorocho, Fabu, Tender Cage and Skylark Western will be performing a live concert.
The Festival for Equality was held the first time in 2010. The festival was a response to the aggressive campaign “We want a dad and a mom” pursued by conservative sectors of our society who attacked the liberty and equality of all Paraguayan public.
In our country there are still cases -even though in a smaller scale- in which LGBT people are harassed by law enforcement officers because of showing affection in public spaces to partners or friends of the same sex. In the first place, we have to recall the most important reminder: in Paraguay, being a LGBT person is not an offence and nobody can threaten with reprisals of any kind for that matter.
Today, there are initiatives promoting equality such as the store “Medialunas Calentitas” which state a posture against discrimination and also a group of youngsters called “Asunción de Colores” that seeks free expression of people and who will be attending the event.
This celebration’s motto is “The party of everyone” so we can achieve a participatory and inclusive festive occasion where all citizens can enjoy the activities that will have the Historical Center and the Costanera de Asunción as main characters.
The complete agenda can be seen in the application under the name of ASU479 for Android systems accessible from Wednesday August 10th.
