The Paraguayan LGBT Federation, held on April 23, 2010, the first National Conference on Human Rights of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transgenders.
This First Paraguayan LGBT Congress was attended by the members of Panambi, who are seeking with this collaboration to join the Federation as founding members of the organization, in order to complement the work carried out for the approval of the law of gender identity.
Under the slogan "Teta guasupe tekopuahu Guara" (To the great nation: new souls), the Congress brought together activists from across the country who agreed on action lines regarding crosscutting topics such as health, civil rights, labor and citizen participation. From these reflections, the Paraguayan LGBT Federation will develop its own strategic plan.
With this First LGBT National Congress began a process of strengthening the foundations of activists accross the country. This target is a key goal of the Federation, mainly in relation to the creation of spaces for exchange and learning that seek to empower activists around the country as shown, responding to the centralism present so far by the movement in the capital.
The Congress is a historic initiative for the LGBT population, giving an opportunity to be heard and build political demands for the mobilization of various government institutions and the civil society. One of the main issues that were discussed, is the demand to the governments (central, departmental and municipal) to deepen the efforts, thoughts and actions towards the consolidation of the Paraguayan secular state, free from prejudice and guided by the universal principles of the Charter Human Rights.
The Congress also began the discussion of specific demands of each segment that makes up the LGBT population in relation to the public policy of Paraguay, and then transfer these claims to the authorities of various strata of the state, involving the LGBT Seminar of the MERCOSUR.
