Simón Cazal, Derlis Viveros and Francisco Figueredo from SOMOSGAY, participated in the workshop "Evaluation for the Strengthening of the response of the Health System to HIV in Paraguay" and the socialization of the report resultant to that management on the past Thursday 22 and Friday 23 of April at the Hotel del Paraguay. The participation of this space wa possible to the invitation from UNAIDS-TG and PAHO, who were responsible of the organization of this event.

In this occasion reflections and considerations on the evaluation report of the response of the health system to the HIV epidemic were discussed. The same report, documents significant shortcomings of the health system on the response to HIV and AIDS. Due to these, multiple organizations of several sectors, demanded to the Minister of Health, present at the closing ceremony, a concrete response in order to take the recommendations of the report and facilitate the improvement that they seek in the health system in the country.
SOMOSGAY through its representatives, has brought the recommendations that considers the most important ones to the organization in a letter sent to the authorities in the health sector.
In a part of this letter sent by SOMOSGAY the following statement is stressed: "We would like to take this letter to formalize our contributions made to the cited event, an also present some points that are important to us take into consideration in regards to the cited report.
We are very interested in the follow up that the Ministry will give to the proposals from the report, specifically to what refers to the development of a prevention strategy that confronts homophobia, that aims to work with PEMAR (Exposed population to a greater risk), and considers the social, cultural, gender determinants and the sociocultural construction of sexuality.
We consider that ignoring the conformation of a space such as CONASIDA in detriment of MCP is a mistake, given the institutional limitations demonstrated by the MCP. Mainly due to the fact that MCP has as its primary tasks to administer projects of the Global Fund when the role of a space such as the CONASIDA aims for a broader view that builds and monitors the strategies on the response to HIV. We stress the need to take into account the recommendations of the report in all of the evaluated areas. We consider as very important the monitoring and evaluation experience to be more constant and participative. In this matter, we consider the availability of space for discussion to be important as well."
As an entity, and it the fulfillment of its mission, SOMOSGAY will back up the measures that the Ministry of Health takes in order to solve the shortcomings detailed in the report. SOMOSGAY restates its commitment to improve the response to HIV and the defense of the rights of the people affected by this virus, making these recommendations their own, and calling for a decided action by the parties involved in the National Response that monitor and contribute to the definite solution of these important obstacles.
