During this meeting, Simon Cazal from SOMOSGAY presented Dr. Nicolas Aguayo a series of concrete proposals to work on the improvement of the prevention of HIV, AIDS and STI. On this matter, Dr. Aguayo valued the approachment of SOMOSGAY on this topic, remarking the commitment of the PRONASIDA to give all the necessary support to strengthening of SOMOSGAY as an entity, making emphasis on the need to cover projects and activities that allow to enhance and extend the national answer given to the pandemic of HIV in our country.
In another point, Dr. Nicolas Aguayo expressed his favorable opinion to the idea of improving the access to males to health services, emphasising that gender equality will only be accomplished by involving successfully males not only to health services, but also to the tasks that the path of equality pursues.
In general lines, there were discussed concrete ideas to broaden the demand of voluntary testing services, monitoring of patients with HIV and to boost the number of early consultation of the patients with HIV to avoid the development of AIDS in them. The director of the PRONASIDA stressed the fact that the services are improving and widening as of today, waiting for the demand of the citizens to grow as well.
As a follow up, SOMOSGAY stressed the need of the Paraguayan State to increase the resources invested in the national answer to HIV, lowering the dependence of the external cooperation is a key point. Currently, Paraguay depends in more than a 60% of its efforts on HIV, from the cooperation of external sources. SOMOSGAY offered its support to the necessary tasks to reach the point where this matter is attended but the other instances of the government that should be involved as well.
The highlight of this improvement, is the availability in short of a series of clinical studies that will allow to better the medication of patients with HIV, thanks to which they will be able to have the hematograms, medical studies that allow to determine a better combination of medicines and improve the answer of the organism to the virus, keeping the Wellbeing of the patient.
The Director of the PRONASIDA expressed his will to sign an agreement of joint work with SOMOSGAY, in order to carry out the series of tasks presented by the entity to enhance the integral health of LGBT persons, and in this case, the area of HIV, AIDS and STI.
The outcome of the meeting is positively received by the members of SOMOSGAY, who expect to have this sort of assumed commitments by the Ministry of Public Health and Social Well Being to continue in the other areas in which SOMOSGAY advocates.
SOMOSGAY will continue its approach to the instances of the State that are necessary to fulfill its mission of improving the life quality of the Paraguayan citizens and specially to the LGBT community.
