The Health and Wellness Clinic of Man "Kuimba'e" will be dedicated to providing sexual health services for men in Asuncion, including gay and bisexual men. Services include free testing and treatment for most infections most important sexual transmission, free and quick HIV testing, as well as a service free vaccination against hepatitis A and B. No appointment will be necessary. This venture of SOMOSGAY is possible thanks to the support of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the largest global AIDS organization, which provides medical care and services to more than 120,000 people in 22 countries worldwide.
AHF has opened several similar centers in other countries, such as USA, Mexico and Ecuador among others. These centers offer confidential and comprehensive sexual health for men, including HIV and STI testing and treatment, in a convenient location and at no cost to its users. These centers, called Men 's Wellness Center are based on a successful model implemented service pioneering way by AHF in collaboration with Public Health Programs in Los Angeles County (California, USA). There are other centers in the U.S. currently operating in Florida and Washington, DC .
"AHF has always strived to create innovative strategies in the fight against HIV since the start of the MWC program five years ago, has found that if men offers a convenient place to be tested and treated for sexually transmitted infections sex, the more likely they begin to address their sexual health needs as part of their routine health care" says Mindy Middleton, Vice Director of the Division of Public Health AHF.
The Men 's Wellness Center Program is part of an ongoing effort to standardize the detection of HIV and STIs, getting regular testing is such an important part of taking care of oneself as eating well, going to the gym and taking vitamins. "The goal is simple," says Middleton" identify those infected and not know it and integrate systems of care, which will reduce local rates of HIV and STI infection."
The Program contributes significantly to MWC early detection of HIV in men fashion, so it is a very effective for identifying new infections program. "In the Men's Health Center, you can get a full battery of tests of sexual health in one place. Always completely confidential and there is no cost to users," concluded Middleton.
The "Kuimba'e" Clinic is located at Independencia Nacional 1032 and Manduvirá in the center of the city of Asuncion and is expected to open in the month of May under the direction of Dr. Ivan Allende, Health Manager of SOMOSGAY.
SOMOSGAY celebrates the opening of this new center and sustains the hope that through it a necessary service to the communities it serves are offered.
