At the Crowne Plaza Hotel was held the Fourth National Epidemiological Sample on the 4th and 5th of December under the theme "The epidemiology builds cross-sectoral linkages."
On the first day, representatives of SOMOSGAY, along with Community Agents, distributed materials and informed the participants of the exhibition on the activities of the organization and the services provided by the Kuimba'e Clinic. On the second day of the event, was held the PRONASIDA Seminary and the presentation of the work carried out by the Civil Society. SOMOSGAY gave a presentation, in charge of Adolfo Ruiz, coordinator of the Youth Area at SOMOSGAY and Coordinator of the Program "Community Agents on Human Rights and Health in Paraguay" carried out by the European Union and the Fundacion Triangulo.
The Community Agents course emphasizes the importance that education can have on everyday life, with the prospect of realizing the universality of human rights, aimed at young people and students in secondary and tertiary education.
During 2013 were trained over 30 community agents between the ages 17 and 29, from cities such as Asunción, Paraguarí, Lambaré, Caaguazú, Encarnación, San Lorenzo, Atyrá, Luque, Ciudad del Este, Fernando de la Mora, Salto del Guaira, J. Augusto Saldivar, Clean, Caacupé, Villa Elisa, San Antonio, Ñemby and Itauguá. The training was conducted on Human Rights, Civil Rights, Sexual Rights, Sexual Health, HIV and STIs, advocacy, sexuality and gender, and heteronormativity . Then they participated in a regional meeting held in the city of Rosario organized by Vox AC.
As a service to the community, the Community Agents conducted massive HIV and Syphilis testing, sexual health workshops within the country and handed over 3,500 units of condoms and water-based lubricants and more than 5000 magazines and materials. They also promoted the activities of the Red Ribbon Week (for World’s AIDS Day), the campaign "Paraguay with Rights, Human Paraguay" (for the International Day of Human Rights).
The Fourth National Epidemiological Sample was presented by the General Directorate of Health Surveillance where several topics were analyzed such as the health situation in our country, outbreak investigation, vaccine-preventable diseases, Paraguay and the certification process of eliminating measles and rubella, tuberculosis, leprosy and HIV, among other topics.
