On Friday May 16th at 11:00 am, the Plaza de Armas, in front of the National Congress of Paraguay, the Kiss-in 2014 will be held, organized by SOMOSGAY to celebrate the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT). For these event we invite all LGBT couples (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) and heterosexuals who want to show that love is stronger and that there should not be grounds for discrimination.
The May 17, 1989, the World Health Organization stated that homosexuality is not a disorder or a mental illness, but a legitimate expression of human sexuality. That's why since 2004, every May 17 we commemorate the day to draw the attention of policy makers, opinion leaders, social movements, public and media through actions (exhibitions, film screenings, debates , shows, demonstrations and others) seeking to sensitize the citizens of their countries.
Homophobia and transphobia are the set of beliefs, opinions, attitudes and behaviors of aggression, hatred, contempt, and other related forms of discrimination that occur against LGBT people. SOMOSGAY looking to banish that irrational thought of hatred towards gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender stigmatizing these groups, putting them in a position of inferiority, taking away rights and acting from the deepest ignorance.
In less than a decade, the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia has established itself as one of the most important dates for the LGBT communities for worldwide mobilization.
As part of this global initiative in Paraguay, through Kiss-in 2014, SOMOSGAY seeks to sensitize the citizens to take advantage of this day to revive hope and diversity that characterizes us as Paraguayans.
