Health Special Rapporteur urges the Paraguayan State to remove barriers to LGBT people

The Special Rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, Dainius Puras visited Paraguay from September 23 to October 6, 2015 to carry out an independent evaluation of the enjoyment of the right to health in the country in which he devoted special attention to the groups at vulnerability, social exclusion and poverty. SOMOSGAY was invited to provide input to the assessment and detailed information on the situation of the right to health of LGBT people in the country.

Every Thursday, from 19, SOMOSGAY shows LGBT films at the headquarters of the LGBT Community Center (Independencia Nacional 1032). With free admission and access for all age groups, this cycle is performed in order to create a space for cultural and social integration for everyone, combining knowledge, entertainment and reflection on diversity.

On the morning of Monday, November 2, the "National HIV Testing Campaign in Paraguay” was launched at the headquarters of the LGBT Community Center. Dr. Tania Samudio, Director of PRONASIDA and Dra. Gladys López, Director of the Laboratory of PRONASIDA, assisted along with Simon Cazal, Executive Director of SOMOSGAY. They presented the details and actions that will be taken along the national campaign.

From December 18 to 20, more than 50 gay leaders from across Latin America will meet in Curitiba, Brazil, for the Regional Meeting Gay Latino, in order to identify the problems of gay men and bisexual Latino related to health, public policy, homophobia and institutional violence in general, defining advocacy strategies to move towards full equality of rights and improve the regional response to HIV in these communities.
