The Paraguayan LGBT Federation organized on April 23rd, the First National LGBT Congress of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Human Rights.

This First National LGBT Congress in Paraguay included the participation of the members of the Organization Panambi, who look forward to be incorporated to the Federation as founding members. They expect to compliment the work of the Federation by carrying out the approval of the gender identity bill.
Under the motto ”Tetâ guasupe guarâ tekopuahu” (A new soul for the motherland), the congress gathered activists from around the country that defined lines of action in cross-cutting themes that included health, civil rights, work and citizen participation. With this considerations in mind, the Paraguayan LGBT Federation will elaborate its own strategic plan.
With this First National LGBT Congress a strengthening process begins on the bases of activists from across the country. This objective is key to the goals of the Federation, mainly in terms of the creation of spaces of exchange and learning that seek to empower activists from the country. Hence giving a response to the centralism established by the movement in the capital of the country.
The Congress is a historic initiative for the LGBT population, by giving a chance to be heard and build political demands of mobilization towards diverse gubernamental institutions and the civil society. One of the main topics addressed was the demand to governments (central, departmental and municipal) of enforcing the efforts, thoughts and actions towards the consolidation of the Paraguayan Secular State, free of prejudices and oriented towards the universal principles of the Letter of Human Rights.
The Congress initiated the discussion of demands of each segment that makes up the LGBT population relating to public policies of the Paraguayan State. These demands will later be translated to the authorities across the levels of the State that will participate in the LGBT Seminar of the MERCOSUR.
