The LGBT Federation Paraguayan performed very successfully the Parade for Equality Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Straight 2011, last Saturday June 25, 2011, commemorating the International LGBT Pride Day, under the slogan "We Are Happy, We are Equal".


A cool, gray and rainy day did not stop people coming to the call which started at 10 in the morning. With lots of energy and accompanied by music of various styles gave the opening act which was attended by Socialist councilor of Asunción, Karina Rodriguez, who has accompanied the presentation of two ordinances that seek to protect and promote human rights LGBT citizens in Asuncion. The first that sought to include the international day against homophobia, pride day and day of AIDS as dates in the calendar of the city and the second, an ordinance that prohibited all kinds of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
Simon Cazal, from SOMOSGAY, welcomed everyone, thanking the courage to conquer fear, break the silence and go out holding the rainbow flag. He stressed that the visibility gained in the last period for claiming equality allows progress towards building a stronger, pluralistic and celebrate the diversity of citizenship in our country democracy.
The colorful crowd then accompanied the words of Miguel Angel Auad, president of the CHOPA, Paraguay Homosexual Community, the oldest LGBT organization in the country, who recalled the persecutions during the Stroessner dictatorship and even during subsequent democratic governments that followed.
"I was arrested countless times, just because of who I am and today is very exciting to see you getting younger claim equality out that the mere fact of being human to us to" highlighted excited.

"Crossing the river we are equal and here still insist on treating us like second-class citizens," said Usha, the iconic artist which colors LGBT events since its inception. The road to equality in law, beginning with marriage equality, inspires us again this year to celebrate everyone in this city festival, demonstrating equality, solidarity and freedom in the streets. As he read the statements during the discussion of Argentina,"only legal equality, can lead to build a society free of discrimination and homophobia."
