Under the continued strengthening and organizational growth, two members of SOMOSGAY were invited to participate in an internship at the organization EPICENTRO Lima, Peru, where they traveled to the support of PAHO. There were trained in counseling and are internalized in the functioning of the Centre for Voluntary Testing and participating in activities in the organization for a week. At the time the signing of an agreement between SOMOSGAY and EPICENTER is conducted to twin our organizations and assist in the growth of both.


As part of the activities, our representatives participated in the Pride Day festivities on June 28 , the presentation of LGBT Human Rights Report of Lima, Peru developed based on compliance with the provisions of the Yogyakarta Principles and team meetings Logistics of the Pride of Lima, Peru the most important of which , in its tenth year , was intended to gather more than 10,000 people.
The march, which our representatives also participated, was held on Saturday 2 July and exceeded the expectations of the organizers, was promptly at 14.00hs Susana Villar opened by newly elected Mayor of Lima, who renewed the commitment made during the election campaign, to endorse the agenda of rights for LGBT people and Lima is a city for everyone and for all without distinction. A group of local and international organizations, who joined SOMOSGAY, signed a manifesto, which was read at that time, support and appreciation to the management of Mayor, who is in the process of enacting an ordinance against LGBT discrimination.
After the speech of the mayor who initiated the march, some 15,000 people marched accompanied by floats, batucada, music and joy through 15 blocks of the Peruvian capital, from the Campus Martius to the Cultural Center of Spain where a stage was set up and could hear different speeches and artistic numbers into the night . The Cabinet Member Mayor Susel Paredes, known Peruvian LGBT activist, who also met and our representatives who pledged his support to the management of our city councilors driving a similar ordinance in Asuncion.
While in Lima, our representatives also met with representatives of different organizations and institutions operating in Lima, as MOHL, PROMSEX, Fifth Floor, HUGE (iPrEx Lima), Institute for Studies in Health, Sexuality and Human Development (IESSDEH) Cayetano Heredia University, PROSA, among others in order to make an exchange of experiences, internalized performance thereof and initiate steps ahead of the signing of agreements for future projects.
