SOMOSGAY opened with much success the first stage of EL CENTRO SOMOSGAY. The simple ceremony was attended by the Deputy Minister of Youth, Karina Rodriguez and Secretary of National Emergency, Camilo Soares. Both Authorities were reaffirming their commitments to the support given to the organization in the past.
The inauguration took place with the words of Simon Cazal, representing SOMOSGAY, who in his words reflected on the history of the LGBT movement and the contribution it makes SOMOSGAY to hold a space as the center. The cool night managed to summon the LGBT and sympathetic audience, reaching nearly 200 people attending the event. Through its broad-based community SOMOSGAY holds this space and use it as a key tool in citizen mobilization and empowerment of LGBT people of Asuncion.
The broad participation of community-based SOMOSGAY in the multiple tasks of the center, make it possible to offer a wide variety of activities and proposals, the center aims to provide SOMOSGAY in the coming months.
Given the great s pace in the facilities of EL CENTRO SOMOSGAY, the tasks of restoration and refurbishment of the building still continue. They are done mostly by volunteers of SOMOSGAY, under the guidance of professionals in tasks such as painting, construction and others. This community involvement demonstrates the effectiveness of the model SOMOSGAY sustained by its ideology: to involve as many people as possible in its mission of dismantling homophobia.
EL CENTRO SOMOSGAY will keep its doors open thanks to its broad community support through which intends to increase both the variety and quality of activities and services the organization offers.
