The Yacht Club Ypacarai hosted the training workshop for Community Agents on October 2 organized by SOMOSGAY, with a team of more than 20 young participants.

Analysis of the Paraguayan Penal Code and the Law 3940/09, HIV and key populations (regional global political context and current domestic), advocacy in the context of youth, youth key populations to HIV in Latin America and Paraguay, were some of the themes developed by the best professionals.

"All the information provided in this workshop was excellent and very interesting. What surprised me most were the figures, like almost 14,000 people living with HIV in Paraguay and more than 4,300 people came to the AIDS stage. I am originally from Cordillera and angers me to know that people living with HIV do not have a comprehensive service, and should go to Itaugua or Asuncion for their treatment” stated Nelson Olmedo, a member of the working group of community agents. "Thus and with everything learned in the workshop, I have all the tools to make a commitment to work and wear the shirt in this fight is to improve the quality of life for all."

The workshops are open to all who wish to participate in actions in favor of human rights in their communities, regardless of age, sexual orientation and/or gender identity. The objective is the adoption and strengthening of community leadership capabilities, which allow the performance of the participants, as agents of change in their communities.

"Paraguay is a reality that needs the young people to change, you need to form new leadership that would not only motivate action in favor of human rights but also to mobilize the grassroots to achieve this," said Sergio Lopez, activist of SOMOSGAY. "Our goal is to give all the necessary information to individuals to enforce their rights and any person who is in need. SOMOSGAY is a social movement that works by love and equality and the promotion and defense of human rights is crucial in this work”, he concluded.
