Latin America united in the Second Regional Meeting GayLatino 2016

GayLatino is a network of activists, Latin American gay men who work for the equality of rights. The 4th, 5th and 6th of November they held their second annual meeting in Mexico City to contribute to the national and regional debate regarding the defence and monitoring of human rights of gay men and men who have sex with other men in the region.

The main objectives of the meeting were analizing and promoting the defence of human rights of gay men and other men who have sex with other men in the Latin American region and advocating towards the promotion and monitoring for the equality in rights for gay men and men who have sex with other men as well as other relevant issues through the debate with Mexican activists and members of GayLatino.

 
Members of the Executive Board, Advisory Board and Secretariat of GayLatino participated as well as activitsts and guests who, due to their experience and field of knowledge or representation, contributed to the analysis and discussion during the debates and panels.

 

 
The new Executive Board members of the network are: Simón Cazal, from Paraguay as General Secretary of the GayLatino network, Norman Gutiérrez, from Nicaragua, Treasurer, Jorge Saavedra, from Mexico, Chair, Toni Reis, from Brazil, Chair, Gustavo Valdés Pi, from Cuba, Chair, Ronald Céspedes, from Bolivia, Records Secretary and finally, Esteban Paulon, from Argentina, President of the Executive Board.


GayLatino Award 2016

As one of the pioneering gay activists in Mexico and because of his constant work during decades that has inspired and served as ground for the advances in equality of rights for LGBT people in the region, a tribute to Juan Jacobo Herández Chávez was made and he was awarded the first GayLatino Award 2016 for his long and commited trajectory in activism.

 

 
The Second Regional Meeting of GayLatino CDM 2016 gathered activits and leaders of 19 countries with important talk, panels and debates, the event was a trend in social media; Trending Topic in Twitter in Mexico and more than 50,000 people reached through Facebook with more than 10,000 plays on live transmissions.

 
GayLatino has mission is the promote and defend freedom, equality and equity, access to integral health, justice and education, for the full exercise, free from discrimination and violence, of human rights of latino gay men and other men who have sex with other men.
